ESCAPE TO THE CHÂTEAU DE LA MOTTE-HUSSON

THE WEDDING OF RICHARD AND JULIE AT CHÂTEAU DE LA MOTTE-HUSSON

THE STORY

WOW WOW WOW where do I begin?! (Im still not over it!) As a film maker you only dream of capturing a wedding like this. I am utterly thrilled to share with you the enchanting tale of Julie and Richard’s wedding at the exquisite (Escape to the Chateau Wedding) at Château de la Motte-Husson. This historic 19th-century chateau, nestled in the beautiful Pays de la Loire region of France, holds a special place in the hearts of Dick and Angel and their loving family. You may recognise them from their captivating journey, as they shared their ups and downs on the beloved TV show Escape To The Chateau. Little did I know that this remarkable setting would become the backdrop for an unforgettable wedding day that I would have the honour of capturing.

It all began when fellow creative and photographer genius Jo Greenfield Photo & Film shared some of my work to her Instagram Stories, Julie the bride to be then reached out and asked would I like to capture her wedding. I wasn’t expecting the next part! Its at chateau de la Motte Husson. My mind was blown, one that julie had chosen me out of the many other talented videographers and two because never in my wildest dreams did I think one day I would have this honour.

Jo had arranged to take her awesome photo booth with her to the chateau and kindly offered me a lift. I say a lift like it was just down the road but really it was a huge 11 hour drive which the legendary Rich (Jo’s husband) decided he would tackle. Tackle he did! with ease. He even did a 10 mile run the morning of the wedding, he’s wired up different. Anyway.

THE PRE WEDDING BBQ

As we entered into the driveway on Friday evening the chateau stood before me in all its grandeur, just as I had seen it on TV. It felt like a dream, a real pinch me moment. Before we could even park, Julie appeared, practically running towards us with open arms. Angel, with her vibrant red hair, greeted us with a warm smile, while Dick, sporting his iconic orange Henderson’s relish apron, skillfully tended to a barbecued pig. Guests sat around, indulging in succulent pork and sipping on cider. We exchanged incredulous glances, for in that moment, they made us feel like cherished friends rather than mere suppliers. From the very beginning, we were embraced as part of the wedding party. Such kindness is quintessentially Yorkshire, and I couldn’t help but be touched by the genuine warmth of the people.

THE WEDDING DAY

Julie’s wedding dress was an absolute showstopper, with its textured layered skirt and perfectly fitted bodice. The Ian Stuart gown was flawlessly complemented by a pair of sparkling Jimmy Choos, adding a touch of fun that harmonized with the Château’s interior. Angel had hung the dress in the famous wallpaper room, and it felt as though it had always belonged there, gracefully draped from the window.

The picturesque steps of Château de la Motte-Husson served as the stunning backdrop for Julie and Richard’s wedding ceremony, officiated by none other than the charming Dick Strawbridge himself.

Following the ceremony, we gathered in the Château’s courtyard for a delightful drinks reception. Throughout the day, Dick, Angel, and their exceptional staff were the epitome of gracious hosts, ensuring that every detail was attended to and making everyone feel genuinely welcome. Their meticulous attention to detail and warm hospitality added an extra touch of magic to the day, making it an unforgettable experience for all. Richard and his friends enjoyed a spot of fishing in the moat, Julie’s mum reveled in the French cider, and guests happily snapped selfies, creating cherished memories.

The orangery at Château de la Motte-Husson exuded elegance and sophistication as guests convened for Julie and Richard’s wedding reception. Following Dick’s lively instructions, napkins waved furiously in the air, adding to the atmosphere of joy and celebration. The sumptuous six-course meal was followed by heartfelt speeches from Richard and his son Joe, leaving not a dry eye in the room.

Long tables were elegantly set up in the orangery, basking in the warm sunshine and gentle breeze that made the day perfect for dining. While Annie the Photobooth entertained guests outside with the scenic backdrop, Dick, a renowned chef, masterfully prepared a culinary feast using the freshest local ingredients. The first course was a basket of freshly baked French baguettes, still warm from the oven. Next, the guests were served a delicious soup of the day, made with fresh vegetables and herbs. The beetroot-cured salmon followed, served with a light dill dressing and garnished with a slice of lemon. For the third course, a trou Normand was served – a small shot of apple brandy to cleanse the palate and prepare them for the main course. Some of the guests were really impressed with this judging by the faces on these photos. The main course was a rare filet of beef, cooked to perfection and served with a zesty salad of mixed greens. Finally, the guests were treated to a selection of French patisseries, Each dessert was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavour.

After the wedding breakfast, Richard and Julie decided to take a stroll around the chateau for some beautiful wedding photographs and videos. The gardens were in full bloom, with vibrant flowers and lush greenery, providing the perfect backdrop for their pictures. The couple walked hand in hand, laughing and chatting as Jo and I captured every moment. As they walked, they felt the warmth of the sun on their skin and the gentle breeze blowing through their hair. They were surrounded by the beauty of the chateau and the love they shared, making it a truly magical moment. The beautiful reflection of the Chateau is one of my favourite photos. I love Julie, in case you hadn’t already realised. Julie is a funeral director and has the best sense of humour I’ve ever seen with a bride. Hilariously funny, warm, caring and honest.  The quote of the day was during the dancing when she asked for her work colleagues dancefloor song so the other funeral directors could have a boogie. Guess the song…..

I LOVE WHAT I DO

I love all my weddings I am forever grateful that this is my job, It really is the best job in the world to be able to visit these venues, meet these people, have the experiences I do and just be at complete peace. I cannot wait for the rest of the year and what it has to offer. Julie, Richard from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. What you’ve given me by asking me to capture your day is more than you’ll ever know. I loved meeting you, dancing with your mums, talking to your family and just having one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Thank you.
